Mulch means soil cover i.e. beneficial for plants and trees. In mulching simply cover the soil with a layer of organic material. Organic matter such as fresh leaves, fresh grass or straw are better mulching materials than plastic in a hot climate. Mulching with appropriate materials increases the soil temperature, conserves soil moisture, texture and fertility, controls weeds, pests and diseases. Dry leaves help soil to retain moisture and get optimum moisture for mango trees to grow appropriately. Also, by following this we do not require much water for irrigation.
